Painting on Wood

So I've been really bad this month with updating the blog, but I've been working alot with my serving job. These pieces aren't really illustrative, but I like to paint what I feel like sometimes. No sketches involved.. just straight drawing and painting on the wood pieces. Wood is a fun surface to paint because it isn't as smooth as illustration board, therefor I have to work more the achieve sharp and crisp edges.
I'm going through a weird phase where all I seem to want to paint is triangle patterns. It feels like Picasso's blue period or something. Post graduation pattern slump?

Hi, how did you get this paint edge sharpness? I'm planning to paint a piece of wood myself, but I'm very scared the paint will soak into the wood and spread where I don't want it to. Do you think some kind of tape can help me? Or rather something plastic? Your colourful triangle shaped work looks perfect! Way to go :)
